Ingredients
Scale
Fruit and Juice
- 8 cups cubed seedless watermelon, chilled
- 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (from about 6-8 lemons)
Sweetener and Liquid
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
- 4 cups cold water, plus more to adjust consistency
Garnishes
- Lemon slices, for garnish
- Watermelon wedges, for garnish
- Fresh mint sprigs, for garnish (optional)
- Ice cubes
Instructions
- Prepare the Watermelon: Cut watermelon into 1-inch cubes yielding about 8 cups, then blend the cubes in a blender until smooth, creating a fresh watermelon puree.
- Strain the Puree: Pour the watermelon puree through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth-lined colander to remove solids, discarding the pulp and seeds to ensure smooth lemonade.
- Extract Lemon Juice: Squeeze fresh lemons to get 1 cup of lemon juice, making sure to remove all seeds for a pure and tart flavor.
- Make Simple Syrup: Combine 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup water in a saucepan, heating gently until the sugar fully dissolves, then allow the syrup to cool.
- Mix Lemonade Base: In a large pitcher, combine the fresh lemon juice with the cooled simple syrup; stir well and adjust sweetness to personal taste.
- Add Watermelon Puree: Pour the strained watermelon juice into the pitcher containing the lemon syrup mixture and stir thoroughly to combine flavors evenly.
- Dilute the Lemonade: Add 4 cups of cold water to the pitcher, stir, and adjust consistency by adding more water if desired for a balanced taste.
- Chill: Cover the pitcher and refrigerate the watermelon lemonade for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors meld and the drink chill.
- Serve: Fill glasses with ice cubes, pour in the chilled watermelon lemonade, and garnish each glass with lemon slices, watermelon wedges, and optionally fresh mint sprigs.
- Enjoy: Serve immediately for a refreshing and hydrating summer treat.
Notes
- Adjust the sugar amount depending on the sweetness of the watermelon and your taste preference.
- If you prefer a pulpier drink, you can skip straining the watermelon puree.
- Fresh mint garnish is optional but adds a nice aromatic touch.
- Use chilled watermelon and water to ensure the lemonade is cold without needing to dilute with too much ice.
- The lemonade can be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 2 days, but it’s best enjoyed fresh.
