Description

Delightful Strawberry Rolls with Cream Cheese Icing, soft and fluffy rolls filled with sweet strawberry jam and fresh strawberries, topped with a creamy vanilla-flavored cream cheese glaze. Perfect for breakfast or dessert, these homemade rolls offer a delicious combination of fruity sweetness and rich frosting.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg

Filling

  • 1 cup strawberry jam or preserves
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, finely chopped

Cream Cheese Icing

  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons milk, as needed

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, granulated sugar, active dry yeast, and salt. Add warm milk, melted butter, and egg, then stir until the mixture is smooth.
  2. Knead the Dough: Gradually add the remaining flour while kneading on a lightly floured surface. Continue kneading for about 8 minutes until the dough is soft, smooth, and elastic.
  3. First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
  4. Shape the Rolls: Roll the dough out into a 14 by 9-inch rectangle. Spread strawberry jam evenly over the surface, then sprinkle with finely chopped fresh strawberries.
  5. Roll and Slice: Roll the dough tightly from the long side into a log, then slice into 12 equal rolls.
  6. Second Rise: Place the rolls cut side up in a greased baking dish, cover, and allow them to rise for another 30 minutes.
  7. Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25 to 30 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
  8. Prepare the Cream Cheese Icing: While the rolls bake, beat together softened cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and 1 to 2 tablespoons milk until the icing is smooth and creamy.
  9. Serve: Spread the cream cheese icing over the warm rolls before serving, ensuring a luscious finishing touch.

Notes

  • Use fresh, ripe strawberries for the best flavor and texture.
  • If the dough feels too sticky during kneading, gradually add a little more flour.
  • Prepare the rolls the night before and refrigerate; bake fresh rolls in the morning for convenience.
