Ingredients
Scale
Protein
- 8 ounces shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 8 ounces sirloin steak, thinly sliced
- 2 eggs, lightly beaten
Vegetables & Aromatics
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup diced onion
- 1/2 cup frozen peas and carrots mix
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, minced
- 2 green onions, sliced
Grains
- 2 cups cooked and chilled jasmine rice
Sauces & Oils
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
Spices
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Cook the shrimp: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp and cook for 2 to 3 minutes until pink and opaque. Remove the shrimp and set aside.
- Cook the steak: In the same skillet, add the sliced sirloin steak and cook for 2 to 3 minutes until browned. Remove and set aside with the shrimp.
- Sauté aromatics: Add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil to the skillet. Sauté the diced onion, minced garlic, and minced ginger for about 2 minutes until fragrant and softened.
- Scramble the eggs: Push the sautéed mixture to one side of the pan. Pour in the beaten eggs and scramble until fully cooked, mixing them with the aromatics afterward.
- Add vegetables: Stir in the frozen peas and carrots, combining everything evenly in the pan.
- Incorporate rice: Add the chilled jasmine rice, breaking up any clumps with your spatula. Stir fry the rice with the vegetables and eggs for 3 to 4 minutes to heat through and incorporate flavors.
- Combine proteins: Return the cooked shrimp and steak to the pan, mixing thoroughly with the rice and vegetables.
- Season the dish: Stir in soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, and black pepper. Mix well so that the rice and proteins are evenly coated and heated through.
- Garnish and serve: Remove from heat and garnish with sliced green onions. Serve immediately for best flavor and texture.
Notes
- Use day-old or chilled rice for best texture and to prevent mushy fried rice.
- You can substitute chicken or tofu for protein to suit dietary preferences.
- Adjust soy sauce amount to control sodium content.
- Ensure shrimp and steak are not overcooked to keep them tender.
