Ingredients
Scale
Egg Mixture
- 4 large Eggs (Fresh, high-quality eggs provide the best flavor and structure.)
- 1 cup Ricotta Cheese (Part-skim ricotta ensures a lighter texture.)
- 1/2 teaspoon Salt (Enhances overall flavor; adjust to taste.)
- 1/4 teaspoon Freshly ground Black Pepper (Adds warmth and depth.)
- 1/4 cup Chopped Herbs (Such as chives, parsley for added freshness.)
- 1/2 cup Chopped Vegetables (Such as spinach, bell peppers, tailored to your liking.)
Equipment & Extras
- 1 set Silicone Molds (Perfect for easy removal.)
- 2 cups Hot Water (For creating the water bath to ensure even cooking.)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C) to prepare for gentle baking.
- Blend Ingredients: In a blender, combine the eggs and ricotta cheese. Blend until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
- Prepare Molds: Place the silicone molds into a baking pan to provide stability during baking.
- Fill Molds: Pour the egg and ricotta mixture into each mold, filling them about three-quarters full to allow room for expansion.
- Add Herbs and Vegetables: Gently sprinkle the chopped herbs and vegetables into each mold for added flavor and texture.
- Create Water Bath: Carefully pour hot water into the baking pan until it reaches halfway up the sides of the silicone molds. This water bath will help the egg bites cook evenly and maintain a smooth texture.
- Bake: Place the pan with molds into the oven and bake for 25-35 minutes. The egg bites are done when they are set and no longer jiggle when gently shaken.
- Cool and Remove: Remove the baking pan from the oven and let the egg bites cool for a few minutes. Gently pop them out of the silicone molds and serve warm or store for later.
Notes
- Adjust the vegetables and herbs to suit your personal taste or seasonal availability.
- Using a water bath ensures the egg bites cook gently, resulting in a tender, custard-like texture.
- Silicone molds are recommended for easy removal; if using metal molds, grease them well to prevent sticking.
- Allow the egg bites to cool slightly before removing to avoid breaking.
- Great for meal prepping; store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
