Ingredients
Scale
Beef Marinade
- 1 pound flank steak, sliced thin against the grain
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce (substitute with tamari for gluten-free)
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
Stir Fry
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (can swap with other oils)
- 1 large onion, sliced (shallots can be used)
- 2 cloves garlic, freshly minced
- 1 cup bell pepper, sliced (any color)
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
- 1 cup beef broth (can substitute with chicken broth)
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce (use mushroom oyster sauce for vegetarian)
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons green onions, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Marinate the Beef: Combine the flank steak slices with soy sauce and cornstarch in a bowl. Let it marinate for about 15 minutes to tenderize and enhance the flavor.
- Cook the Beef: Heat vegetable oil in a skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry for 3 to 4 minutes until the beef is browned but not fully cooked. Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.
- Sauté the Vegetables: Add remaining vegetable oil to the same pan. Stir-fry the sliced onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic for 3 to 5 minutes until the vegetables are tender but still crisp.
- Add Ginger: Incorporate the minced ginger and stir for an additional 1 minute until fragrant, which will enhance the dish’s aromatic profile.
- Combine Beef and Sauce: Return the cooked beef to the pan. Pour in the beef broth and oyster sauce, stirring well to combine. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes until everything is heated through and the sauce slightly thickens.
- Finish with Sesame Oil and Seasoning: Drizzle sesame oil over the stir fry and season with salt and pepper to taste. Mix gently to evenly distribute flavors.
- Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle chopped green onions on top as a fresh garnish. Serve the stir fry hot alongside steamed rice or noodles for a complete meal.
Notes
- For a gluten-free version, substitute the soy sauce with tamari and ensure the oyster sauce is gluten-free or replaced with mushroom oyster sauce.
- Flank steak should be sliced thinly against the grain for maximum tenderness.
- Vegetables can be varied; snow peas or snap peas work well in place of bell peppers.
- The dish cooks quickly, so have all ingredients prepped before starting.
- Use a wok or large skillet to allow high heat cooking and easy stirring.
