Description

These Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls combine the classic flavors of a Philly cheesesteak with a crispy egg roll wrapper, making a delicious appetizer or snack. Filled with tender ribeye steak, sautéed bell peppers and onions, and melted provolone cheese, they are perfect for frying or baking to golden perfection.

Ingredients

Scale

Filling

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons butter, divided
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1/2 cup onion, chopped
  • 1 pound boneless ribeye steak, sliced or coarsely chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 6 slices provolone cheese

Egg Rolls

  • 12 egg roll wrappers
  • Oil for frying (enough to fill a deep pan about 2-3 inches)

Optional Dipping Sauce

  • Ranch dressing

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Filling: Melt 1/2 tablespoon butter in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add the chopped green bell pepper and onion, and sauté until softened and fragrant. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  2. Cook the Steak: In the same pan, melt the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter. Add the ribeye steak pieces, seasoning them with salt and pepper. Cook until browned and cooked through, stirring occasionally.
  3. Combine Filling: Return the cooked bell peppers and onions to the pan with the steak. Stir to combine the mixture evenly.
  4. Assemble Egg Rolls: Lay an egg roll wrapper flat on a clean surface. Place half a slice of provolone cheese in the center of the wrapper, followed by 2-3 tablespoons of the steak and vegetable mixture. Fold and seal the edges with a little water to form a roll.
  5. Fry the Egg Rolls: Heat oil to 350°F in a deep frying pan or pot. Fry the egg rolls in batches, cooking each for 3-5 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  6. Bake Option: Preheat the oven to 425°F. Lightly coat assembled egg rolls with cooking spray and bake them on a baking sheet for 15-20 minutes or until crispy, flipping halfway through.
  7. Serve: Serve the Philly cheesesteak egg rolls hot with ranch dressing or your favorite dipping sauce if desired.

Notes

  • You can substitute provolone with American or mozzarella cheese for variation.
  • For a healthier alternative, use the baking method instead of frying.
  • Make sure to seal the egg rolls edges well to prevent filling from leaking during frying.
  • Let cooked egg rolls rest on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
  • Leftover steak mixture can be refrigerated up to 2 days for another use.
