Description

These Pan-Fried Beef Tacos are a crispy and flavorful Mexican-American dish featuring seasoned ground beef cooked on the stovetop, folded into warm corn tortillas with melted cheese, and pan-fried to golden perfection. Topped with fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and sour cream, they’re a satisfying meal perfect for a quick dinner or casual gathering.

Ingredients

Scale

Beef Filling

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 packet taco seasoning or 2 tablespoons homemade taco seasoning
  • 1/2 cup water

Tacos

  • 8 small corn tortillas
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar or Mexican blend cheese
  • Oil for frying

Toppings

  • 1/2 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup sour cream

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Aromatics: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and cook until softened, about 3 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  2. Cook the Ground Beef: Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain any excess grease to keep the tacos flavorful but not oily.
  3. Season the Meat: Stir in the taco seasoning and water. Reduce heat to a simmer and cook for 3 to 5 minutes, allowing the mixture to thicken and the flavors to meld.
  4. Warm the Tortillas: Slightly warm the corn tortillas until they are pliable enough to fold without cracking.
  5. Assemble the Tacos: Spoon a portion of the beef mixture onto one half of each tortilla and sprinkle with shredded cheese. Fold the tortillas over to create taco shapes.
  6. Pan-Fry the Tacos: Heat a thin layer of oil in a clean skillet over medium heat. Place the folded tacos in the pan and cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side until they are golden brown and crispy.
  7. Drain and Serve: Remove the tacos from the skillet and drain on paper towels. Serve hot topped with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and a dollop of sour cream.

Notes

  • You can swap ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
  • For extra crispiness, press gently with a spatula while frying the tacos.
  • Serve with salsa or guacamole for added flavor.
