Description

This Mouthwatering Calabrian Steak and Shrimp Bucatini Delight is a flavorful Italian-inspired pasta dish that combines tender slices of seared steak, succulent shrimp, and spicy Calabrian chili paste. Tossed with al dente bucatini pasta and a garlicky, buttery sauce, this dish delivers a perfect balance of heat, richness, and freshness for a quick and satisfying 40-minute meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Pasta

  • 8 ounces Bucatini pasta (a unique hollow spaghetti)

Protein

  • 1 pound Steak (sirloin or ribeye), thinly sliced
  • 1 pound Raw shrimp, peeled and deveined

Sauce & Seasonings

  • 2 tablespoons Calabrian chili paste or oil (for spice)
  • 4 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted butter (for richness)
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil (for searing)
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon juice (fresh)
  • To taste Salt & freshly ground black pepper

Garnish

  • 1/4 cup Fresh parsley or basil (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cook Bucatini: In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the bucatini pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually around 8-10 minutes. Reserve 1 cup of pasta cooking water before draining the pasta.
  2. Sear Steak: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the thinly sliced steak and sear it until golden brown on the outside, about 3-4 minutes. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside to rest.
  3. Sauté Garlic and Shrimp: In the same skillet, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant but not browned. Then add the raw shrimp and cook for 2-3 minutes until they turn pink and opaque.
  4. Add Flavorings: Stir in the Calabrian chili paste (or oil) and fresh lemon juice into the skillet, mixing well with the shrimp and garlic butter. Allow the sauce to thicken slightly for another minute, melding the flavors together.
  5. Combine Steak and Pasta: Return the seared steak to the skillet with the shrimp and sauce. Add the drained bucatini pasta and gently toss all ingredients together to evenly coat the pasta with the sauce and distribute seafood and steak.
  6. Adjust Sauce Consistency: Pour in a splash of the reserved pasta water gradually, stirring to create a glossy, smooth sauce that clings to the pasta without being too watery.
  7. Season and Garnish: Season the dish with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Remove from heat, garnish with chopped fresh parsley or basil if desired, and serve immediately for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Use sirloin or ribeye steak for best tenderness and flavor.
  • Shrimp should be peeled and deveined for ease of eating.
  • Calabrian chili paste adds a spicy kick; adjust quantity for preferred heat level.
  • Reserve pasta water to adjust sauce thickness for a silky finish.
  • Fresh herbs like parsley or basil brighten the dish at the end.
  • Do not overcook shrimp to keep them tender.
