Description

This Garlic Parmesan Pizza Grilled Cheese recipe combines the irresistible flavors of pizza with the comforting gooeyness of grilled cheese. Featuring a garlic Parmesan butter spread, melty mozzarella, zesty pizza sauce, and pepperoni slices, this easy skillet-cooked sandwich is perfect for a quick lunch or dinner that satisfies pizza cravings in a fun, grilled cheese format.

Ingredients

Scale

Garlic Parmesan Butter

  • 1/4 cup softened unsalted butter
  • 4 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Sandwich

  • 8 thick slices of sturdy bread (sourdough or Italian)
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 1/2 cup pizza or marinara sauce, divided
  • 24 thin slices of pepperoni

Instructions

  1. Preheat the skillet: Warm a large skillet or griddle over medium-low heat to ensure even cooking and prevent burning of the bread.
  2. Prepare garlic Parmesan butter: In a bowl, combine the softened butter, grated Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and salt. Mix well to incorporate all flavors.
  3. Butter the bread: Spread half of the garlic Parmesan butter mixture onto one side of 4 bread slices. Place these slices buttered side down on the heated skillet.
  4. Add pizza toppings: On the bread slices in the skillet, spread 1 tablespoon of pizza sauce on each. Then add 1/4 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese, followed by 6 slices of pepperoni, and top with the remaining mozzarella cheese.
  5. Assemble sandwiches: Spread pizza sauce on one side of the remaining 4 bread slices. Place these sauce side down over the cheese and pepperoni layers on the skillet. Finally, spread the remaining garlic Parmesan butter on the top sides of these bread slices.
  6. Cook sandwiches: Cook for 3 to 4 minutes per side, carefully flipping once, until the bread turns golden brown and the cheese inside is fully melted.
  7. Serve: Allow the sandwiches to cool slightly, then cut each sandwich in half. Serve warm with extra pizza sauce for dipping if desired.

Notes

  • Use sturdy bread like sourdough or Italian to hold up well with the toppings and butter.
  • Adjust the amount of pizza sauce or pepperoni according to your taste.
  • Cook over medium-low heat to allow the cheese to melt fully without burning the bread.
  • Use a spatula to carefully flip the sandwiches to maintain their shape.
  • Leftovers can be wrapped and refrigerated; reheat in a skillet for best texture.
