Ingredients
Scale
Steak and Potatoes
- 1 ½ lbs top sirloin steak, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 lb baby potatoes, halved or quartered
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced
Seasonings and Add-ins
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 3 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 4 tbsp butter, cubed
Instructions
- Par-boil the potatoes: Bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Add the baby potatoes and cook for 5 minutes to soften slightly. Drain and let cool for 10 minutes to prepare them for further cooking.
- Prepare the steak: Cut the top sirloin steak into bite-sized pieces. For enhanced flavor, you may marinate the steak with olive oil, garlic, and seasonings if desired.
- Combine ingredients: In a large bowl, toss the par-boiled potatoes, steak pieces, sliced onion, olive oil, chopped parsley, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper thoroughly to ensure everything is evenly coated with the seasonings.
- Assemble foil packets: Lay out 4 pieces of aluminum foil, approximately 12×12 inches each. Evenly distribute the steak and potato mixture onto the center of each foil piece, then top each with cubed butter.
- Seal the packets: Fold the long edges of the foil over the filling, then fold the shorter edges tightly to create a secure seal that will lock in moisture during cooking.
- Cook the packets: For grilling or campfire cooking, place the foil packets over medium-high heat and cook for 8–10 minutes per side. Alternatively, bake in a preheated oven at 425°F (220°C) for 20 minutes. For an extra crispy finish, open the foil packets and broil for an additional 1–2 minutes.
- Serve: Carefully open the foil packets to avoid steam burns, then serve warm. Garnish with additional fresh parsley if desired for added color and freshness.
Notes
- Par-boiling the potatoes is optional but recommended for faster and more even cooking in the foil packets.
- You can marinate the steak ahead of time to deepen the flavor.
- If cooking on a grill or campfire, monitor the heat carefully to prevent burning the foil packets.
- Use heavy-duty aluminum foil to avoid tears and leaks during cooking.
- For a dairy-free version, substitute butter with olive oil or a vegan butter alternative.
