Ingredients
Scale
Puff Pastry
- 1 package of puff pastry, thawed
Filling
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Egg Wash
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tbsp milk
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the Danish pastries.
- Prepare the puff pastry: Roll out the thawed puff pastry on a floured surface to avoid sticking, ensuring an even thickness.
- Cut the pastry: Slice the rolled pastry into squares of equal size and place each square onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or lightly greased to prevent sticking.
- Make the filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla extract. Stir until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
- Add filling to pastry: Spoon a generous amount of the cream cheese mixture into the center of each pastry square, being careful not to overfill.
- Fold pastry corners: Carefully fold the corners of each square over the cream cheese filling to create a neat package, sealing the edges gently.
- Apply egg wash: In a small bowl, mix the egg yolk with milk. Brush this egg wash over the tops of each folded pastry, which will give them a beautiful golden color when baked.
- Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the Danish pastries turn golden brown and puffed.
- Cool and serve: Remove the pastries from the oven and allow them to cool slightly before serving to enjoy warm flaky layers with creamy filling.
Notes
- You can sprinkle a little extra sugar on top before baking for added sweetness.
- Make sure the puff pastry is thawed but still cold to handle easily and achieve best puffing.
- For a fruit variation, add a small spoonful of jam or fresh fruit on top of the cream cheese before folding.
- The egg wash can be made with whole egg instead of yolk for a richer color.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate and reheat before serving.
