Cheeses
- 1 cup ricotta cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Other Ingredients
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) to get it ready for baking the casserole.
- Mix the ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the fresh spinach, ricotta cheese, shredded mozzarella, grated Parmesan, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, eggs, salt, and black pepper. Stir thoroughly until all components are evenly incorporated.
- Prepare the casserole dish: Grease a casserole dish lightly with butter or cooking spray to prevent sticking, then transfer the spinach and cheese mixture into it, spreading it out evenly.
- Bake the casserole: Place the filled casserole dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes. Bake until the top turns golden brown and the casserole is set.
- Cool and serve: Once baked, allow the casserole to cool slightly for a few minutes before serving to enhance flavors and for safe handling.
Notes
- This casserole can be made a day ahead and reheated in the oven for 15 minutes at 350°F before serving.
- For a gluten-free version, substitute the breadcrumbs with gluten-free breadcrumbs or crushed gluten-free crackers.
- Adding a pinch of nutmeg to the cheese mixture adds a nice subtle warmth if desired.
- If you prefer a crispier topping, sprinkle an additional 2 tablespoons of breadcrumbs on top before baking.
