Sauce Ingredients
- 2 cups canned tomatoes
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Fresh basil for garnish
Instructions
- Cook pasta: Cook the pasta according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- Heat olive oil: In a pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat to prepare for sautéing.
- Sauté onion and garlic: Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the heated pan and sauté until they are soft and fragrant, about 3-5 minutes.
- Simmer tomatoes: Stir in the canned tomatoes, bring to a simmer, and cook for 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken slightly.
- Add heavy cream: Pour in the heavy cream and mix well to create a creamy tomato sauce.
- Season: Season the sauce with salt and black pepper to taste, adjusting seasoning as needed.
- Combine pasta and sauce: Add the cooked pasta into the pan with the sauce and gently toss to coat the pasta evenly.
- Garnish and serve: Garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving to add a fresh and aromatic finish to the dish.
Notes
- Use good quality canned tomatoes for the best flavor.
- To make the sauce spicier, add red pepper flakes when sautéing the garlic and onion.
- For a lighter version, substitute heavy cream with half-and-half or coconut cream.
- Fresh basil can be substituted with dried basil if necessary, but add it earlier during simmering.
- Reserve some pasta water to adjust the sauce consistency if it becomes too thick.
