Description

This festive Christmas Trifle Dessert combines layers of tender sponge cake, creamy custard, fresh fruits, and whipped cream to create a beautiful and delicious holiday treat. Perfectly chilled and garnished with vibrant strawberries and blueberries, this no-bake dessert is ideal for celebrations and gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

Trifle Layers

  • 1 pound sponge cake, cut into cubes
  • 2 cups custard
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, chopped
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries
  • 1 cup fruit preserves

Topping

  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the sponge cake: Cut the sponge cake into bite-sized cubes ensuring even pieces for layering.
  2. First layer: In a large glass bowl or trifle dish, arrange half of the sponge cake cubes evenly at the bottom.
  3. Add custard and fruit: Spread half of the custard gently over the sponge cake layer, followed by half of the mixed fresh strawberries, blueberries, and fruit preserves.
  4. Repeat layers: Repeat the layering process using the remaining sponge cake cubes, custard, and fruit to build the trifle.
  5. Make whipped cream topping: In a chilled bowl, whip the heavy cream with vanilla extract until soft peaks form. Spread this evenly over the top of the layered trifle.
  6. Garnish and chill: Garnish the whipped cream with extra fresh fruits as desired. Refrigerate the assembled trifle for at least 4 hours to allow flavors to meld and for the dessert to chill thoroughly before serving.

Notes

  • Use quality fresh fruits for the best flavor and presentation.
  • Allow the trifle to chill sufficiently to achieve the best texture and flavor melding.
  • Fruit preserves can be any berry flavor depending on preference.
  • For a lighter whipped cream alternative, use reduced-fat cream or a dairy-free substitute if desired.
  • This dessert is best served cold and should be consumed within 24 hours for optimal freshness.
