Description

This rich and creamy Chocolate Mousse Pie features a buttery graham cracker crust filled with a light and fluffy dark chocolate mousse. The pie is chilled to perfection, making it a decadent dessert ideal for any occasion. The recipe combines the smooth textures of whipped cream and melted chocolate, topped with an optional garnish of whipped cream and chocolate shavings or fresh berries.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Crust:

  • 1 ½ cups graham cracker crumbs (or Oreo crumbs for a chocolate crust)
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • â…“ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • A pinch of salt (optional)

For the Chocolate Mousse Filling:

  • 8 oz dark chocolate (around 60% cocoa)
  • 2 cups heavy cream (divided)
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Make the Crust: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a medium-sized bowl, combine the graham cracker crumbs, sugar, and melted butter, mixing until the crumbs are evenly coated. Press this mixture firmly into the bottom and up the sides of a 9-inch pie dish or tart pan. Bake the crust for 8-10 minutes until it turns golden and slightly firm. Remove and let it cool completely on a wire rack.
  2. Prepare the Chocolate Mousse Filling: Break the dark chocolate into pieces and melt it using a double boiler or microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between sessions. Once melted, let the chocolate cool slightly. In a separate bowl, whip 1 ½ cups of the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form. Gently fold the whipped cream into the cooled melted chocolate, mixing carefully to keep the mousse light and fluffy.
  3. Assemble the Pie: Pour the prepared chocolate mousse filling into the cooled crust, smoothing the top with a spatula for an even layer. Refrigerate the pie for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, allowing the mousse to set firmly.
  4. Serve and Enjoy: Just before serving, whip the remaining ½ cup of heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Pipe or spoon this whipped cream atop the pie for decoration. Optionally, garnish with shaved chocolate, chocolate curls, or fresh berries to add a beautiful finishing touch.

Notes

  • You can substitute Oreo crumbs for the graham crackers if you prefer a chocolate crust.
  • Ensure the melted chocolate is not too hot to avoid deflating the whipped cream when folding.
  • For best results, refrigerate overnight to allow the mousse to fully set.
  • Garnishing with fresh berries or chocolate curls adds texture and visual appeal.
  • Use high-quality dark chocolate (around 60% cocoa) for optimal flavor.
