Description

Chicken Philly Sliders are a delicious twist on the classic Philly cheesesteak, featuring tender shredded chicken sautéed with bell peppers, onions, and garlic, topped with melted provolone cheese, all layered on soft slider buns. Perfect for game day or casual gatherings, these cheesy chicken sandwiches are easy to prepare and packed with flavor.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken Mixture

  • 2 cups cooked shredded or thinly sliced chicken breast
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Slider Assembly

  • 12 slider buns
  • 6 slices provolone cheese
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F to prepare for baking the assembled sliders.
  2. Sauté Vegetables: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onion and bell pepper and sauté until soft and slightly caramelized, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add Garlic and Chicken: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant. Then add the cooked shredded chicken, salt, black pepper, and Italian seasoning. Mix well and heat through for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Prepare Slider Buns: Slice the slider buns in half horizontally. Place the bottom halves side by side in a baking dish.
  5. Assemble Sliders: Spread the chicken and vegetable mixture evenly over the bottom halves of the buns. Layer the provolone cheese slices on top of the chicken mixture, then cover with the top halves of the slider buns.
  6. Butter Topping: In a small bowl, mix melted butter optionally with mayonnaise and Dijon mustard for extra flavor. Brush this mixture evenly over the tops of the buns.
  7. Bake: Bake the sliders in the preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes until the cheese is melted and the tops are golden brown.
  8. Serve: Remove from the oven, slice into individual sliders if desired, and serve warm.

Notes

  • Substitute provolone cheese with mozzarella or American cheese for variety.
  • Use rotisserie chicken as a convenient shortcut to save time.
  • Add sliced mushrooms to the sautéed vegetables for additional flavor and texture.
