Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- 1 1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
Wet Ingredients
- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven and prepare pan: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a standard loaf pan to prevent sticking.
- Combine dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and garlic powder if using. Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese ensuring each cheese shred is evenly coated with the dry mixture.
- Mix wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk the milk, melted butter, and egg until smooth and uniform.
- Combine wet and dry mixtures: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture. Gently stir just until the ingredients are combined, being careful not to overmix as this can make the bread tough.
- Add chives: Fold in the chopped fresh chives if you like an herbaceous note to your bread.
- Fill loaf pan and bake: Transfer the batter into the greased loaf pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the bread comes out clean.
- Cool before slicing: Let the bread cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely, allowing it to set properly for clean slices.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add cooked crumbled bacon or a pinch of cayenne pepper for a spicy kick.
- This bread is best served warm and can be reheated easily in a toaster oven or microwave.
- Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days to maintain freshness.
