Ingredients
Scale
Tomatoes
- 4 large tomatoes, sliced into 3 thick slices each
Toppings
- 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon fresh oregano (or 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare a large baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper or spraying it with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Arrange the tomatoes: Place the thick tomato slices cut side up on the prepared baking sheet, ensuring they are spaced evenly to allow for even cooking.
- Add toppings: Sprinkle freshly grated Parmesan cheese evenly over each tomato slice. Then, sprinkle fresh oregano (or dried oregano) along with salt and pepper to your taste. Finally, drizzle the tablespoon of olive oil evenly over all the tomato slices to add richness and aid in browning.
- Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the tomatoes are tender and the cheese has melted and started to brown slightly.
- Serve: Remove from the oven and serve immediately while warm as a delicious side dish or appetizer. Enjoy!
Notes
- Use ripe but firm tomatoes to ensure slices hold their shape during baking.
- Fresh oregano will provide a more vibrant flavor, but dried oregano works well too.
- Parmesan cheese can be substituted with Pecorino Romano for a sharper taste.
- For a crispier topping, broil the tomatoes for an additional 1-2 minutes after baking, watching closely to avoid burning.
- This dish pairs wonderfully with grilled meats, pasta, or a fresh green salad.
