Ingredients
Scale
Cheese and Spread
- 1 (8 oz) round brie cheese
- 2–3 tablespoons pepper jelly (or fruit jam)
Dough and Coating
- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
- 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Serving
- Crackers or apple slices, for serving
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
- Prepare Puff Pastry: On a lightly floured surface, roll the thawed puff pastry sheet into an 11-inch square to ensure it can fully enclose the brie cheese.
- Assemble Brie and Jelly: Place the round brie in the center of the puff pastry. Spread 2 to 3 tablespoons of pepper jelly evenly over the top of the brie to add a sweet and tangy flavor contrast.
- Wrap the Brie: Carefully fold the edges of the puff pastry over the brie, pleating as necessary to encase it completely. Use the beaten egg wash to brush the edges and seal the pastry well.
- Score for Decoration: Lightly score the top of the pastry with a knife to create a decorative pattern, being careful not to cut through to the cheese.
- Bake: Place the wrapped brie on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 35 minutes or until the puff pastry is golden brown and cooked through.
- Rest and Serve: Remove from the oven and let the baked brie rest for 10 minutes to allow the cheese to set slightly before serving with crackers or apple slices.
Notes
- Allow the puff pastry to thaw properly before rolling out to avoid cracking.
- You can substitute pepper jelly with any fruit jam such as apricot or raspberry for different flavors.
- Be careful not to overfill the pastry to prevent leakage while baking.
- Serving with fresh fruit or nuts can add complementary textures and flavors.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated and gently reheated in the oven for best results.
