Description

Soy Salmon Steak with Sambal Salad is a bold and flavorful Asian Fusion dish featuring umami-marinated salmon steaks pan-seared to perfection, paired with a spicy and tangy sambal-infused salad. This meal offers a delicious balance of savory soy glaze, spicy sambal heat, and fresh crisp vegetables, making it ideal for a quick and satisfying dinner for two.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Salmon Marinade

  • 2 salmon steaks (about 6 oz each)
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for cooking)

For the Sambal Salad

  • 1 cup shredded cabbage
  • 1 small carrot, julienned
  • 1 small cucumber, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons sambal oelek
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Marinade: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger to create the flavorful marinade.
  2. Marinate the Salmon: Place the salmon steaks in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over them. Refrigerate and let marinate for 20–30 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  3. Make the Sambal Salad: While the salmon marinates, combine shredded cabbage, julienned carrot, thinly sliced cucumber, sambal oelek, lime juice, and chopped cilantro in a large bowl. Toss well and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Cook the Salmon: Heat the vegetable oil in a nonstick skillet or grill pan over medium heat. Remove the salmon from the marinade, letting excess drip off, and cook for 4–5 minutes on each side until cooked through and caramelized.
  5. Serve: Plate the hot soy salmon steaks with the spicy sambal salad on the side. Optionally, serve with steamed rice or noodles for a heartier meal.

Notes

  • Increase the sambal oelek quantity to make the salad spicier.
  • Substitute salmon with firm tofu or another firm fish if preferred.
  • Pair this dish with steamed rice or noodles to make it more filling.
