Description

This Pizza Grilled Cheese recipe combines the gooey cheesiness of a classic grilled cheese with the bold flavors of pepperoni and Italian seasonings, creating a delicious twist reminiscent of your favorite pizza. Ready in just 20 minutes, it’s perfect for a quick and satisfying meal served with warm pizza sauce for dipping.

Ingredients

Scale

Butter Mixture

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, very soft
  • 1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon dried Italian seasoning

Sandwich

  • 8 slices white bread
  • 12 slices mozzarella cheese
  • 6 ounces pepperoni
  • Warm pizza sauce for dipping

Instructions

  1. Prepare Butter Mixture: In a medium-sized bowl, combine the very soft unsalted butter with grated Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and dried Italian seasoning. Mix until the ingredients are smoothly blended to create a flavorful spread.
  2. Butter the Bread: Evenly spread the butter mixture over one side of each bread slice. Place the buttered sides up on a sheet tray to prepare for assembling the sandwiches.
  3. Assemble and Cook the Sandwich: Heat a skillet over medium-low heat. Place one slice of bread butter side down in the skillet. Layer one slice of mozzarella cheese, six pepperoni slices, another mozzarella slice, six more pepperoni slices, and a final slice of mozzarella on top of the bread.
  4. Top and Grill: Place another slice of bread on top, butter side up. Cook the sandwich until the bottom is golden brown, about 3 to 5 minutes. Carefully flip and cook the other side until golden brown and the cheese is fully melted.
  5. Serve: Remove the grilled cheese sandwiches from the skillet and serve immediately with warm pizza sauce for dipping, enhancing the pizza-inspired flavors.

Notes

  • Use medium-low heat to prevent burning the bread while allowing cheese to melt thoroughly.
  • For extra crispiness, consider pressing the sandwich lightly with a spatula while cooking.
  • Warm the pizza sauce before serving for a better dipping experience.
  • Substitute white bread with whole wheat or gluten-free bread if preferred.
  • Adjust the amount of pepperoni to taste for a spicier or milder sandwich.
