Description

Peaches and Cream, Literally is a simple yet luscious dessert that highlights the natural sweetness of fresh peaches soaked in a light sugar syrup, then chilled with rich heavy cream for a refreshing, creamy treat. This no-bake dessert is perfect for warm days when you want something elegant but easy to prepare.

Ingredients

Scale

Peaches

  • 4 medium fresh peaches, peeled, pitted, and sliced (about 2 cups)

Syrup

  • 1/3 cup white sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 cup water

Cream

  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream, cold

Instructions

  1. Prepare the peaches: Peel, pit, and slice the fresh peaches until you have about 2 cups of sliced fruit. This will be the base of your dessert.
  2. Make the syrup: In a saucepan, combine the white sugar and water. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves and the syrup is light and clear, about 3 minutes.
  3. Cook the peaches: Add the sliced peaches to the boiling syrup and let them simmer gently for 1 minute to soften and absorb some sweetness.
  4. Cool the mixture: Remove the saucepan from heat and let the peaches and syrup cool for 15 to 20 minutes so the flavors meld.
  5. Separate peaches and syrup: Use a slotted spoon to transfer the peaches to a bowl, leaving the syrup behind. You can discard or save the syrup for other uses.
  6. Add the cream: Pour cold heavy cream over the peaches in the bowl and gently stir to combine, coating the fruit in the creamy texture.
  7. Chill and serve: Divide the peaches and cream into serving glasses or bowls. Cover them and refrigerate for at least 3 hours or up to overnight to chill well before serving.

Notes

  • For a lighter option, substitute half-and-half or yogurt for the heavy cream.
  • You can leave some peach skin on for more texture and nutrition if you prefer.
  • The syrup can be flavored with a splash of vanilla or a pinch of cinnamon for extra depth.
  • Serve with a sprig of fresh mint or a dusting of nutmeg for garnish.
  • This dessert tastes best made with ripe, juicy peaches in season.
