Scale
Ingredients
- 1 large round loaf of sourdough bread
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
- 4–5 slices cooked bacon, chopped
- 2–3 jalapeños, seeded and finely chopped
- 3 tablespoons chopped green onions
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the stuffed bread.
- Prepare the Bread: Using a serrated knife, carefully cut the bread into a grid pattern by slicing both horizontally and vertically, making sure not to cut all the way through the bottom crust to keep the loaf intact.
- Mix Filling: In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, shredded Monterey Jack cheese, chopped cooked bacon, finely chopped jalapeños, chopped green onions, garlic powder, and melted butter. Stir until well mixed.
- Stuff the Bread: Gently open the bread cracks and use a spoon or your hands to stuff the cheese and jalapeño mixture deeply into the cuts of the bread.
- Wrap and Bake: Wrap the entire stuffed loaf tightly in aluminum foil and place it on a baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes.
- Unwrap and Finish Baking: Carefully unwrap the foil and bake the bread for an additional 10–15 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the cheese mixture is bubbly and melted.
- Serve Warm: Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, then serve warm for a delicious, shareable appetizer.
Notes
- You can substitute turkey bacon or omit bacon entirely to make a vegetarian version.
- For extra heat, leave some jalapeño seeds in the mixture or use pickled jalapeños instead of fresh.
- Ensure the cream cheese is softened for easier mixing and better texture.
- Use a serrated knife to avoid crushing the bread while cutting the grid.
