Description

Hot Chicken French Bread Hoagies are a deliciously spicy and cheesy sandwich featuring tender shredded chicken tossed in buffalo wing sauce, layered on toasted French bread, and baked with melted mozzarella and cheddar cheeses. Finished with a drizzle of creamy ranch dressing and fresh green onions, these hoagies make a perfect main course for a flavorful and satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Hoagies

  • 1 large French bread loaf, cut into 4 hoagie sections
  • 2 cups cooked shredded chicken
  • 1 cup buffalo wing sauce
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Toppings

  • 1/2 cup ranch dressing
  • 1/4 cup sliced green onions

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for toasting the bread and baking the hoagies.
  2. Prepare Bread: Slice the French bread loaf into four hoagie-sized sections and then cut each piece in half lengthwise to create open sandwich halves.
  3. Toss Chicken: In a mixing bowl, combine the shredded chicken with buffalo wing sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Stir thoroughly until the chicken is evenly coated in the spicy sauce and seasoning.
  4. Toast Bread: Place the bread halves cut side up on a baking sheet. Lightly brush the cut sides with the melted butter and bake in the oven for about 5 minutes until the bread is lightly toasted and golden.
  5. Assemble Hoagies: Remove toasted bread from oven. Spread the buffalo chicken mixture evenly over the bottom halves of the bread. Then sprinkle shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese evenly over the chicken layer.
  6. Bake Hoagies: Return the assembled hoagies to the oven and bake for 8 to 10 minutes until the cheese has melted and is bubbly.
  7. Add Toppings and Serve: Remove the hoagies from the oven. Drizzle ranch dressing over the melted cheese and sprinkle with sliced green onions. Top with the other halves of the French bread and serve warm for the best flavor.

Notes

  • Using rotisserie chicken saves time and adds great flavor.
  • Adjust the amount of buffalo wing sauce to control the heat to your preference.
  • Blue cheese dressing can be substituted for ranch dressing if you prefer a stronger, tangier flavor.
