- 2 green onions, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1/2 tsp grated ginger
- 1/4 tsp white pepper
- 30-40 wonton wrappers
Soup Base and Vegetables
- 8 cups chicken broth
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp grated ginger
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups baby bok choy or spinach
- 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms (optional)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Garnish
- Green onions, chopped
- Fresh cilantro
Instructions
- Prepare the wontons: In a bowl, combine the ground chicken, finely chopped green onions, minced garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, grated ginger, and white pepper. Mix well to evenly distribute all ingredients throughout the filling.
- Assemble the wontons: Place a small spoonful of the chicken mixture in the center of each wonton wrapper. Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water, then fold it into a triangle, pressing firmly to seal. Bring the opposite corners together and pinch to form a traditional wonton bundle.
- Make the soup base: In a large pot, heat the chicken broth over medium heat. Stir in soy sauce, sesame oil, grated ginger, and minced garlic to infuse the broth with flavor. Let it simmer gently for 5 to 7 minutes to develop the soup’s rich taste.
- Add vegetables and season: Add the baby bok choy or spinach and sliced mushrooms if using, into the simmering broth. Season with salt and pepper to your preference, and continue to cook until the vegetables soften slightly.
- Cook the wontons: Carefully drop the prepared wontons into the simmering soup. Let them cook for 4 to 5 minutes, or until the wontons float to the surface and the chicken filling is fully cooked through.
- Serve: Ladle the soup along with wontons and vegetables into bowls. Garnish with freshly chopped green onions and cilantro. Serve the soup warm for a comforting and delicious meal.
Notes
- Ensure edges of wonton wrappers are moistened properly to prevent filling from leaking during cooking.
- Wontons can be frozen uncooked on a baking sheet and later cooked directly from frozen.
- Adjust seasoning of broth with soy sauce or salt according to taste preferences.
- Substitute ground chicken with ground pork or shrimp for different filling flavors.
- Add chili oil or fresh chilies for a spicy kick if desired.
