Ingredients
Scale
For the Steak Marinade:
- 1 lb sirloin or ribeye steak, cut into bite-sized cubes
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
- 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the Vegetables:
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 1 zucchini, sliced
- 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
- 1 onion, sliced
- 1 cup broccoli florets
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
For the Fried Rice:
- 2 cups cooked jasmine rice (day-old preferred)
- 2 eggs, lightly beaten
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 green onions, sliced
For the Yum Yum Sauce:
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon sugar
- 1–2 tablespoons water to thin sauce
Additional:
- 1 tablespoon butter (for searing steak)
Instructions
- Marinate the Steak: In a bowl, combine steak cubes with soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, minced ginger, rice vinegar, salt, and pepper. Mix well to coat all pieces evenly. Let the mixture sit for 15–20 minutes to absorb the flavors.
- Sauté the Vegetables: Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a large skillet or hibachi-style griddle over medium-high heat. Add sliced zucchini, mushrooms, onion, and broccoli florets along with 1 tablespoon soy sauce. Stir-fry the vegetables until they are tender but still retain a slight crunch, approximately 4–5 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Cook the Steak: In the same pan, melt 1 tablespoon butter over medium-high heat. Add the marinated steak cubes and sear for 2–3 minutes on each side until browned and cooked to your preferred doneness. Remove from heat and allow the steak to rest briefly so juices redistribute.
- Prepare the Fried Rice: Using the same pan, melt 1 tablespoon butter. Add beaten eggs and scramble gently until just set. Stir in the cooked jasmine rice, breaking up any clumps. Add soy sauce and sesame oil, stirring well to incorporate. Mix in sliced green onions and continue stir-frying until the rice is heated through and slightly crispy on the edges.
- Make the Yum Yum Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, ketchup, rice vinegar, garlic powder, sugar, and 1–2 tablespoons water until the sauce is smooth and has a pourable consistency.
- Assemble the Bowls: In serving bowls, layer a portion of the fried rice, topped with the sautéed vegetables and seared steak cubes. Drizzle the yum yum sauce generously over the top. Serve immediately to enjoy the dish at its best.
Notes
- Chicken or shrimp can be used as substitutes for steak for a different protein option.
- Adding a dash of sriracha to the yum yum sauce creates a spicy variation.
- This dish is ideal for meal prep; store components separately in airtight containers and reheat before serving.
