Ingredients
Scale
Cauliflower
- 1 head of cauliflower, cut into bite-sized florets
Batter
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Coating
- 2 cups breadcrumbs (panko recommended for extra crispiness)
For Baking
- Olive oil or cooking spray (to grease baking sheet)
For Frying
- Oil for frying (such as vegetable or canola oil), heated to 375°F (190°C)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper, lightly greased with olive oil or cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Prepare Batter: In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, water, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper until you have a smooth, lump-free batter ready for coating.
- Coat Cauliflower: Dip each cauliflower floret into the prepared batter, ensuring it is fully coated, then roll it thoroughly in the breadcrumbs to cover all sides for a crispy finish.
- Arrange on Baking Sheet: Place the coated cauliflower florets in a single layer on the greased baking sheet, making sure they do not touch to allow even cooking and crisping.
- Bake: Bake the florets in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes, flipping them halfway through the baking time to promote even browning and a golden, crispy texture.
- Alternatively, Prepare for Frying: If frying, heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C). Repeat batter and breadcrumb coating as previously done with florets.
- Deep Fry: Fry the cauliflower bites in batches for 3 to 4 minutes until they are golden brown and crispy on all sides. Avoid overcrowding the pot to maintain oil temperature.
- Drain: Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried cauliflower and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil and keep them crispy.
- Serve: Serve the golden crispy cauliflower bites hot with dips such as ranch, blue cheese dressing, hot sauce, or any preferred condiment for a tasty treat.
Notes
- For extra crispiness, use panko breadcrumbs instead of regular breadcrumbs.
- Adjust seasoning in the batter according to your taste preference.
- Ensure cauliflower florets are dry before dipping into the batter to help the coating stick better.
- If baking, flipping halfway helps achieve even browning on all sides.
- When frying, maintain the oil temperature to ensure crispy bites without being greasy.
- These bites can be made ahead and reheated in the oven to restore crispiness.
