Ingredients
Scale
Meat and Base
- 500g ground beef
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Vegetables and Flavorings
- 1 brown onion, finely chopped
- 1 cup frozen peas and carrots (optional)
- chopped parsley (for garnish)
Seasonings and Sauces
- 1 packet (40g) French onion soup mix
- 1 cup beef stock
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the onions: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the finely chopped brown onion and cook until softened, about 3 to 4 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent burning.
- Brown the beef: Add the ground beef to the skillet with the onions. Cook until browned thoroughly, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks to ensure even cooking and a crumbly texture.
- Add seasonings and liquids: Stir in the French onion soup mix, beef stock, Worcestershire sauce, tomato paste, and garlic powder. Mix everything well to combine the flavors and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
- Incorporate vegetables: If using, add the frozen peas and carrots now. Stir them in to heat through as the mixture continues to simmer.
- Simmer the mince: Reduce the heat to low and let the savoury mince simmer for 10 to 15 minutes. Stir occasionally to allow the sauce to thicken and the flavors to blend together fully.
- Season and garnish: Taste and season with salt and pepper as needed. Before serving, sprinkle with chopped parsley for a fresh herb garnish that brightens the dish.
