Ingredients
Scale
Beef and Sauce
- 2 pounds sirloin steak or boneless beef chuck roast, sliced thin
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1/2 cup low sodium soy sauce
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 Tablespoon sesame oil
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
Thickening and Vegetables
- 4 Tablespoons cornstarch
- 4 Tablespoons water
- 1 bag (12 ounces) frozen broccoli florets
To Serve
- Cooked white rice (optional, for serving)
Instructions
- Prepare the sauce mixture: In the insert of a 6 quart crock pot (slow cooker), whisk together beef broth, low sodium soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, and minced garlic until well combined and smooth.
- Add and coat the beef: Place the thinly sliced beef into the prepared liquid in the crock pot. Toss to evenly coat all the beef slices with the sauce. Cover with the lid.
- Slow cook the beef: Cook on low heat for 5 hours, allowing the beef to become tender and absorb the savory flavors of the sauce.
- Make the thickening slurry: When the beef is done, whisk together cornstarch and water in a small bowl until smooth to create a slurry.
- Thicken the sauce and add broccoli: Pour the cornstarch slurry into the crock pot and stir gently to mix well. Then add the frozen broccoli florets on top of the beef and sauce. Gently stir again to combine everything evenly.
- Cook broccoli and thicken sauce: Cover the crock pot again and cook on low for an additional 30 minutes. This will cook the broccoli until tender and thicken the sauce to a glossy finish.
- Serve and enjoy: Spoon the beef and broccoli mixture over warm cooked white rice if desired. Serve hot and enjoy a comforting homemade meal!
Notes
- For best results, slice the beef thinly against the grain for tender bites.
- You can substitute frozen broccoli with fresh broccoli florets; just adjust cooking time accordingly.
- If you like more sauce, increase the beef broth or soy sauce slightly.
- Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator up to 3 days and reheated gently.
- Cooked white rice pairs perfectly to soak up the delicious sauce.
