Ingredients
Scale
Hot Chocolate Base
- 4 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Toppings
- Marshmallows (for topping)
- Crushed candy canes (for topping)
Instructions
- Combine Ingredients: In a crockpot, combine whole milk, heavy cream, sweetened condensed milk, semi-sweet chocolate chips, unsweetened cocoa powder, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Stir well to combine all ingredients thoroughly.
- Cook: Cover the crockpot and cook on low heat for 2 hours. Stir occasionally during cooking to ensure the chocolate melts completely and the mixture is smooth and heated through evenly.
- Serve: Pour the hot chocolate into mugs and top with marshmallows and crushed candy canes for a festive and decorative finish. Serve immediately while warm.
Notes
- Stir occasionally while cooking to prevent the hot chocolate from sticking to the bottom or burning.
- Use good quality semi-sweet chocolate chips for the best flavor and creaminess.
- Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less sweetened condensed milk if desired.
- This recipe can be doubled for larger gatherings by using a larger crockpot or cooking in batches.
- For a dairy-free version, substitute whole milk and heavy cream with coconut milk or almond milk and use dairy-free chocolate chips.
