Description
A delightful dessert featuring a large vanilla ice cream dome generously covered in homemade caramel sauce, surrounded by crunchy popcorn and topped with rich dark chocolate chunks. This caramel popcorn chocolate dome combines creamy, sweet, and crunchy textures for a truly indulgent treat.
Ingredients
Scale
For the Dome
- 1 large vanilla ice cream dome
- 100g popcorn
- 100g dark chocolate, broken into chunks
- 150 ml caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
For the Caramel Sauce
- 200g granulated sugar
- 90g unsalted butter
- 120 ml heavy cream
- 1/2 tsp salt
Instructions
- Prepare the Caramel Sauce: In a saucepan over medium heat, heat the granulated sugar while stirring constantly with a wooden spoon. The sugar will first form clumps and then gradually melt into a thick, amber-colored caramel liquid.
- Add the Butter: Once the sugar is fully melted, carefully add the unsalted butter. Be cautious as the caramel mixture will bubble vigorously.
- Incorporate the Heavy Cream: Slowly drizzle in the heavy cream while stirring continuously. The mixture will bubble again. Allow it to boil for 1 minute to fully combine the ingredients and achieve a smooth caramel sauce.
- Finish the Sauce: Remove the saucepan from heat, add salt, and set the caramel sauce aside to cool before using it on the dome.
- Assemble the Dome: Place the large vanilla ice cream dome onto a serving plate, ready for decoration.
- Drizzle Caramel Sauce: Pour a generous amount of the cooled caramel sauce over the ice cream dome, allowing it to cascade down the sides for full coverage.
- Attach the Popcorn: Gently press the popcorn around the caramel-coated ice cream dome so it adheres and forms a crunchy layer that clings to the caramel.
- Add Chocolate Chunks: Sprinkle the dark chocolate chunks evenly over the popcorn-covered dome to introduce a rich chocolate contrast.
- Serve: Allow the dome to rest for a few minutes so the ice cream slightly softens for easier eating. Optionally, serve with extra caramel sauce on the side for additional drizzling.
Notes
- Make sure to stir continuously when melting sugar to avoid burning the caramel.
- Use fresh, good-quality vanilla ice cream for the best flavor.
- For a quicker option, use store-bought caramel sauce instead of homemade.
- Popcorn should be plain or lightly salted to balance the sweetness.
- If the ice cream dome is too hard, let it sit out for 5-10 minutes to soften slightly before assembling.
