Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 2 ripe bananas
- ½ cup butter, melted
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 ½ cups flour
- â…“ cup cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
Optional Add-ins
- ½ cup chocolate chips
- ½ cup walnuts
- 2 tbsp peanut butter (for swirling)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8×8-inch baking pan to prevent the brownies from sticking.
- Mash the Bananas: In a medium bowl, mash the ripe bananas thoroughly until smooth and lump-free, ensuring even moisture throughout the batter.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract. Then stir in the mashed bananas until well incorporated.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In another bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt to distribute the leavening agent and cocoa evenly.
- Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined to avoid overmixing which can toughen the brownies. If using optional add-ins like chocolate chips or walnuts, fold them in at this stage. For peanut butter swirl, gently add dollops on top and swirl with a knife.
- Bake: Pour the batter evenly into the prepared 8×8-inch baking pan. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs but no raw batter.
- Cool and Serve: Remove the brownies from the oven and let them cool in the pan for at least 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm for a gooey texture or at room temperature for easier slicing.
Notes
- Use very ripe bananas with brown spots for the best natural sweetness and moisture.
- Do not overmix the batter to keep the brownies tender.
- Customize with your favorite nuts or chocolate chips to add texture and richness.
- Peanut butter swirl adds a delicious creamy contrast but is optional.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for a week.
