Ingredients
Scale
Cake
- 1 box devil’s food cake mix (15.25 oz)
- 3 large eggs
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup water
Toppings and Filling
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk (14 oz)
- 1 jar caramel sauce (12 oz)
- 1 tub whipped topping (8 oz)
- 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup toffee bits
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Prepare the cake batter: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan thoroughly. In a large mixing bowl, combine the devil’s food cake mix with eggs, vegetable oil, and water. Mix until the batter is smooth and well blended.
- Bake the cake: Pour the prepared batter into the greased pan and spread evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Remove from the oven and let cool for about 10 minutes.
- Poke holes in the cake: Using the handle of a wooden spoon, carefully poke holes all over the warm cake surface. This will allow the filling to seep into the cake.
- Add sweetened condensed milk and caramel: Slowly pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the top of the cake, ensuring it soaks into the holes. Then drizzle the caramel sauce evenly across the cake surface.
- Cool completely and add whipped topping: Allow the cake to cool completely to room temperature. Once cooled, spread the whipped topping evenly over the entire cake surface.
- Decorate and chill: Sprinkle mini chocolate chips and toffee bits over the whipped topping. For best results, chill the cake in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving to let the flavors meld and the topping set.
Notes
- For extra richness, drizzle additional caramel sauce just before serving.
- You can substitute the whipped topping with homemade whipped cream if desired for a fresher taste.
- This cake tastes best when served chilled and can be made a day in advance to enhance flavors.
